About Give to Haiti

Give to Haiti

Give To Haiti is a tax-exempt not-for-profit organization that serves Haiti, especially Arcahaie, located 19 miles from Port-au-Prince.  Give To Haiti ‘s goal is to educate, provide economic growth and alleviate hunger in Haiti by soliciting, collecting, growing food for distribution through a network of service agencies and programs that serve our target population groups. Our services work to improve the lives of the less fortunate and the forgotten living conditions, strengthen their decision-making and self-management skills, and provide them with the tools they need to prosper. Give To Haiti aims to rebuild Haiti sustainably and give Haitians hope, pride, and dignity.

Approximately 80% of Haiti residents qualify for assistance from Give To Haiti. Our client base is low-income people, mainly families, who need help to put food on the table, send their children to school, and learn a trade.  Nearly half of those served by the program are children and young adults, adults, and senior citizens.  Give To Haiti operates several programs to donate crops to farmers, “Kore Peyizan” supports several elementary schools, provides solar streetlights, and distributes school supplies in rural areas with limited resources. We kept the doors of schools that were about to close open by providing operating funds. The projects enable people to recognize and utilize their particular abilities to better their own lives and the lives of those around them.

The number of children who will need services from Give To Haiti will increase during the next five years.  The population of Arcahaie is rapidly growing, and the number of new high school graduates who need technical skills for employment surpasses the availability of the existing resources. Our programs exist to address the numerous barriers that the community faces daily and ensure that everyone reaches their full potential.

Our services improve the ability of families to care for children and achieve goals of self-sufficiency. Our initiative will enhance and promote independence among the socially disadvantaged and forgotten by strengthening their decision-making and self-management abilities and providing them with the resources necessary to succeed and build a stronger community. The organization will establish a sustainable village and learning community, allowing additional partners to contribute to a more resilient and sustainable future. Now, Give To Haiti’s services are a small investment compared to the cost of ignoring the problem of hunger in the country and its influence on several health and crime issues.

Give to Haiti invests in farmers and families because we know how important it is for families and communities to have a stable source of income. Project participants establish sustainable programs to bridge the living income gap with the help of our teams.

While we do our good works let us not forget that the real solution lies in a world in which charity will have become unnecessary.

Our History

The Project Give to Haiti started as a nonprofit organization in Lawrenceville, Georgia where I was managing a for profit business.  When I heard about the rise of (Clorox) a hunger crisis in Haiti, multiple riots, and protests for the increase of cost of living, the people overthrew Jean Edouard Alexis the vice President. I got to talk to many people and communicate the desire and willingness to help and give back to my birth country Haiti. I had planned to travel to Haiti for a short stay to overview and find out how to bring changes to the welfare of the people.  The trip was not possible, because of the rioting and violence of the people, therefore, I cancelled my flight and decided to personally give something back to Haiti. I started by giving and collecting cash donations for the month of April 18, 2008, and spreading the word and the idea to families, friends, other businessmen in the Haitian community, and to everyone who came in contact with me. The feedback I received was extremely positive and inspiring so I make this idea a reality.

After the devastating earthquake in 2010, I took a sabbatical from work and spent 4 years in Haiti, where I got to help in every capacity.  I spent the majority of my time in Arcahaie, where the living condition is barely humane. I gave from my personal account and I collected from friends and family to give to the needy. I also got involved physically, I constantly traveled to the mountains to visit the people to bring them food, clothing, and medication. it became such a routine that the people automatically expected me to bring them goods every week. I learned a great amount from the people, I made it my responsibility to help them farm their land because they want to plant but they don’t have the means to buy the crops to plant. in 2019 Give to Haiti supported 1800 farmers by giving them black beans to plant, this year I added 500 more to bring the total to 2300, my goal is to support all the farmers to become independent.  We cannot do it alone we are relying on you and others to make this a reality and work toward the eradication of hunger.

While I was in Haiti, I witnessed People living in tent long after the earth quake, because they don’t have any home to go to, and no help has been given to them to get out of their situation, therefore, tent city became their home. this is a very tough situation to be in, no running water, no bathroom, no proper ventilation, no food, and no work. they survived by asking and begging on the street. That’s when I knew that we have work to do.
